This RAI documentary of 2008, described Amedeo’s decision to return to East Africa in 1938.

On the run, 1941. Amedeo’s guerrilla escapades are rather exaggerated in Italy. He never made any secret to me that his aim was to be a irritation, rather than risk a serious engagement. I have not found any reference to his activities in the British archives, which suggests it was fairly minor and of a few months duration.
